Two places named La Cascada can be reached, both located in the municipality of Monguí. The Cascada de Penagos, located in the Páramo de Ocetá (photo), is part of this beautiful ecosystem, and stands as a monument to the sacred liquid. The second place, is in reference to the Sanctuary of the Sacred Family, place where according to locals, Maria the virgin appeared. This last one waterfall, although not too big, is a pilgrimage center for locals from Tópaga, Mongua and Monguí.

20 minutes from Villa San Juan Hostel, and upon Chisisí ravine, it can be found a series of pictograms made by the indigenous Muiscas in the prehispanic era. Drawn over an amazing rock Cliff. These drawings were used to teach and to communicate concepts concerning to social organization, developing ways and artisan activities. It is feasible to consider this class of hieroglyphics as an autonomous writing creation, under a geometric premise and based on orthogonality.

Located on the rural area of the municipality of Mongua, and belonging to the Siscunsí Páramo, it is found the Laguna Negra (Black Lagoon), next to the Morro de Uze, the highest peak around the area. Although its water is cristal clear, the sediments and vegetation at the bottom of the lagoon, makes its water to look black, which at the same time, is the reason to name the lagoon in this way. In the old years, it was thought that walking nearby this lagoon was very dangerous, due to a great risk of being absorbed by its water..

Considered by many as the world’s most beautiful Páramo. It is located among the towns of Monguí, Tópaga and Mongua and is direct neighbour of the Siscunsí páramo. In this peculiar environment, it is possible to find ecosystems from foggy forest to super páramo, and unique species of fauna and flora, among which stands out the white tail gray deer, the many varieties of frailejones (silver, yellow, white…), purple lupines, and some others. It can be defined as a natural monument to the precious liquid which give us life. .

The siscunsí páramo, located among the municipalities of Mongua, Monguí and Sogamoso, is neighbour and continuation of the Ocetá Páramo. In the picture, it can be observed the Siscunsí Lagoon, surrounded by some peaks with soft hillsides. This ecosystem has a great variety of fauna and flora, proper of regions located at high altitude in tropical latitudes. The Siscunsí páramo is home of the majestic Condor of the Andes, since it was chosen as repopulation place of this bird, beginning with the introduction of 10 condors raised in captivity.

Tópaga is the municipality to which we belong. Its foundation is attributed to the mayor Alvaro Leiva in 1593. It is recognised as a coal mining town, and it is famous for its crafting in this material. The church of La Inmaculada Concepción de Tópaga must be highlighted, it was founded by the Jesuits in 1632 and declared National Patrimony in 1965. Inside the church one can find an arc, in its center the figure of the devil is drawn, with one angel on each side guarding him, with a finger over their lips, preventing the devil to scape or to speak

In 1982 in Puntalarga Hill, under the direction of Marco Quijano Rico PhD, it was born the Puntalarga Winegrowing Project, with the objective of demonstrate that it is posible to produce wine of superior international quality in Colombia. Since then, it was born one of the world’s pioneer vineyard and winery in highlands tropical viticulture, cradle of the tropical cold weather viticulture, and the one that names the recognized Marqués de Puntalarga. It is posible to find terroir revealer varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Riesling and Riesling x Silvaner.
